Estonia: Bank card payments up by 17% in 10 months

During the first 10 months of 2011, the number of card payments made by Estonian cardholders per day has reached 522.000, up by 17 percent year-on-year, recent statistics released by the central bank of Estonia have unveiled.

According to LETA, a Latvian news agency, card payments turnover has increased by 14 percent in the last 10 months.

The report has also indicated that in the previously mentioned period, a number of 24.6 million domestic payments per month, with a total turnover of EUR 9.4 billion, have been made via the Estonian banks.

According to statistics, card payments in sales venues have accounted for 62 percent in numbers and 2.3 percent in turnover of all domestic payments which have been made during the first 10 months of 2011.

The research has also revealed the fact that Estonian cardholders have withdrawn cash from ATMs 4 times in ten months, as compared to 4.8 times in 2007.
