Apple launches two-factor authentication in more countries

Friday 17 May 2013 00:52 CET | News

Apple has introduced its recently launched two-factor authentication in more countries including Canada, Argentina, Russia, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Poland.

Two-factor authentication requires users to enter a unique code as well as a password when accessing their online account and is a means of providing extra protection against hackers and identity theft. The unique code is sent via SMS message to the users registered mobile phone. If a hacker obtains a users password, without that users phone and the randomly generated code stored on it, the account is safe as the password alone is useless.

The feature has been initially rolled out to consumers with an Apple ID in the US, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand in March 2013.
