Belgian Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs selects Gemalto for ePassports

Tuesday 1 October 2013 07:25 CET | News

Gemalto, a Dutch digital security company, has unveiled that it will supply Belgium with its Sealys ePassport, due to be introduced in May 2014.

Gemalto is set to provide the Belgian Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs with 400,000 ePassports every year and the provider of supply chain, identification and mobility solutions Zetes will serve as the system integrator in this agreement.

ePassports, also known as electronic and biometric passports, can be read via authorised contactless readers and incorporate a microprocessor. Implemented by Gemalto’s embedded software, the ePassports store unique personal characteristics such as a fingerprint, providing authentication of the holder’s identity.
Gemalto is a digital security company focused on mobile services, payment security, authenticated cloud access, identity and privacy protection.

In recent news, Netsize, a Gemalto company and an m-commerce services provider, has received Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) certification, extending the capabilities of its payment platform beyond operator billing to allow end user credit card details to be securely stored, thus enhancing credit card payments via mobile phones.
