The newly deployed system enables customers sending money home to register just once and record their fingerprint as permanent identification within the Digicel system. From that point on, existing customers will only have to scan their fingerprint at the VeriFone terminal to retrieve their details and make a new transaction, even if they are registered at another store. The new fingerprint technology avoids the need for customers to provide identification each time they transact.

In recent news, Digicel has entered an agreement with US-based electronic payment services provider VeriFone Systems to deploy the latter’s mWallet services and NFC-enabled payment systems in the business district in Tongas capital Nukualofa.
