Oracle investigates data breach at Micros division

Tuesday 9 August 2016 00:19 CET | News

Oracle has confirmed that it is investigating a data breach of its Micros division, a point-of-sale credit card payment system.

There is no information about how many systems were breached but the intruders had slipped malware on to the portal that would let them grab logins for the companies using Micros. They would not have had direct access to payment data, but there is a chance those account details could be used to slip malware into the credit card systems and then grab sensitive info.

Oracle confirmed the breach and said it detected and addressed malicious code in certain legacy Micros systems, but the companys own systems, corporate network, and other cloud and service offers were not impacted.

The company said that payment data is not at risk, as that information is encrypted both at rest and in transit.
