Symantec, G&D team up for smartphone security

Monday 25 February 2013 13:26 CET | News

Symantec, a US-based security software designer for computers, and Germany-based electronic payment services provider Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) have teamed up to protect security applications for smartphones and tablets.

The collaboration centres on the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) which is a secure area within the main processor of a mobile device. The TEE can be used for security software and for storing sensitive data but can only be accessed via Trusted Service Managers.

Symantec has revealed plans to update its mobile applications to implement G&D’s Trusted Service Manager (TSM) and the TEE, upgrading the level of security. Its first ultra-secure application will be a new version of the Symantec Validation and ID Protection Service two-factor authentication, which is currently used by businesses to protect online services.

In recent news, Symantec has partnered Microsoft to disrupt a botnet known for rerouting victim machines to websites, online advertisements and links of the attackers choosing.
