UAE requires biometrics for mobile users registration

Friday 18 March 2016 13:53 CET | News

The Abu Dhabi-based telecommunication company, Etisalat, has invited mobile users to register their fingerprint biometrics along with the re-registration of their mobile account.

This decision is part of Telecommunications Regulatory Authority campaign called My Number, My Identity and involves the fingerprints which are matched to government identity documents, such as Emirates IDs or residence visas.

The campaign aims to reduce fraud and protect users’ privacy, biometric identification being a main variable used for other state structures, like airports and police cars.
