New Zeeland: 49% of consumers over 18 have bought online in 2011

In New Zeeland, 49 percent or 1.6 million of consumers over 18 have purchased products and services over the internet in 2011, a recent study has unveiled.

According to the latest Online Retail Report released by research company Nielsen, online shoppers have also increased the amount of their purchases, with the number of people buying more than six items online jumping 21 percent in 2011 as compared to 2010.

Results have also pointed out that travel was the most popular purchase with half of all online shoppers booking air tickets. According to the same source, 25 percent of consumers have booked online car hire, accommodation and other travel related services.

Data has also indicated that 32 percent of New Zeeland consumers have acquired shoes, clothes and accessories online while29 percent of them have ordered magazines and books. In addition, 27 percent of online shoppers have used the online channel to buy entertainment tickets to films, concerts and theatre.
