The white paper (which can be downloaded here) outlines Plimus vision regarding the way companies must evolve and expand their monetization strategies in order to become successful in a new era of e-commerce. Plimus defines e-commerce 3.0 as the ability to give the consumer the freedom to buy anything, anywhere, from any application on any device at any time.
According to the company’s white paper, traditional online subscription models, in which customers pay a fixed amount on a fixed time schedule in return for content or services, are evolving in response to changing customer demand. Plimus envisages the new subscription monetization model, which will engage more consumers and drive more revenue for virtual goods and services, as blending fixed-fees and schedules with ad hoc, pay-as-you-go charges that change the dynamic of the relationship between the customer and seller.
Moreover, the white paper provides readers with an insightful look into how dynamic subscription models will expand beyond the gaming industry and eventually impact software publishers, providers of online services and software as a service companies. Plimus forecasts that by late 2011 it will be difficult to find online merchants still using the fixed-fee / fixed-subscription model.
The Plimus platform supports over 40 types of payment and manages transactions for more than more than 55,000 vendors and shoppers around the world. Recently, Plimus has signed an agreement with PayPal to implement the PayPal Digital Goods online checkout service into its e-commerce platform.
