Thai government, eBay initiate e-commerce campaign

The Thai government has teamed up with eBay to promote e-commerce across the region.

According to the agreement which aims to encourage small and medium-sized enterprises to bring their products online, eBay specialists are to provide workshops and training for small-to medium-sized Thai enterprises on how to sell on the internet. The Thai government expects that the number of participating small and medium-sized enterprises is to surpass 1,000. In Thailand, there are 13.5 million internet users and in 2008, online trade value reached USD 1 billion (THB 3.65 billion).

At the end of Q4 2008, the marketplaces business unit, which consists of eBay, Shopping.com, StubHub, Kijiji and other ecommerce sites, reached USD 1.27 billion in revenue.
