Consumers are worried about security issues when they have to use their mobile devices to shop online, a recent research has unveiled.

According to a study released by marketing firm Affinion International, about 60 percent of people who use a smartphone have declared they believe their security is at a risk if they perform e-commerce transactions using the smartphone.

Almost ¼ of people have associated mobile commerce with an increased risk of credit card fraud and identity theft. According to fraud specialist CIFAS, security issues such as credit card fraud and identity theft have increased in 2011.

The same research has indicated that only 13 percent of respondents have the same worries when it comes to making online purchases using a desktop or a laptop.

According to the same source, the m-commerce segment is expected to increase in 2012. The Center for Retail Research forecasts that the UK m-commerce market will grow by 53 percent in 2012, reaching GBP 4.5 billion in revenue. The collected data has also shown that in Germany, the m-commerce market will account for GBP 2.7 billion, while in France it will only register GBP 4.5 million in revenue.

The study has also pointed out that in 2011, only GBP 700 million were spent via mobile shopping in UK and if estimations for 2012 are correct, the mobile commerce market will register a 584 percent increase.
