Airtel and Verifone join hands on mobile NFC payments in Ghana

Mobile network operator Airtel has joined forces with Verifone Mobile Money to bring contactless mobile payments to Ghana.

Under the terms of the partnership, NFC-enabled POS terminals will be provided to Airtel Ghana merchants around the West African country. The telcos approximately 1.5 million Airtel Money customers will then be able to pay from their mobile wallets either with their NFC-enabled handsets or via a provided contactless sticker.

In March 2015, Airtel Ghana unveiled a strategic collaboration with fast food restaurant chain KFC.
