The joint venture between Latin American telecommunications services provider America Movil, Citibanks Mexican unit Banamex and financial services provider Banco Inbursa has selected Dutch digital security company Gemalto as the technology provider for Transfer mobile payment service in Mexico.

Transfer is the service that enables financial transactions in real time from mobile devices through SMS messaging.

Under the agreement, Gemalto is set to be the technology provider in Mexico of Transfers transactional platform and is responsible for the service development, support and operation.

Transfer is based on Gemaltos LinqUs mobile payment platform, which enables customers to use their mobile accounts through different channels. This platform integrates in accordance with the financial and telecommunication industries standards allowing users to make transactions including transfers, air time purchasing and cash withdrawal from their mobile phones. The user is also set to be able to manage his accounts through other self-service channels like interactive voice response and web sites.

In recent news, UAE-based financial institution United National Bank (UNB) has entered an agreement with Dutch digital security company Gemalto to introduce Optelio payment cards for its EMV migration.
