Friday 22 November 2013 00:23 CET | News

US direct carrier billing mobile payments company Boku has acquired Indian direct carrier billing provider Qubecell. The agreement includes the purchase of all shares in Qubecell.

The acquisition of Qubecell provides Boku with direct carrier billing connections with four carrier networks in India along with a number of local merchant relationships. This enables Boku’s carrier billing technology to reach approximately 75% of the country’s mobile subscribers, around 550 million users. The acquisition extends Boku’s footprint in Asia and the Middle East.

In recent news, Boku has entered a partnership with Deezer, a global music service with approximately 10 million monthly users worldwide, to bring direct carrier billing to Deezer’s subscribers who want to pay using their mobile number.
