GSB considers mobile banking service for underbanked consumers in Thailand

Monday 29 June 2009 10:53 CET | News

Thai financial services provider the Government Savings Bank (GSB) is considering the launch of a mobile banking service, online news outlet nationmultimedia.com reports quoting a senior bank official.

According to the report, GSB regards mobile banking as having a significant potential for cutting banking services costs and for expanding its business to underbanked consumers in remote areas where setting up brick-and-mortar branches is not seen as commercially viable. The envisaged mobile banking service could also allow customers to carry out water, electricity, and credit card bill payments.

The bank has also invested in a new IT infrastructure, which is set to go life in September 2009.
