India: Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank partner for mobile banking services

Indian telecommunication services company Bharti Airtel has entered a partnership with financial services provider Axis Bank to provide customers with mobile banking services through the Airtel Money platform, online media outlet indiatimes.com reports.

According to the source, Bharti Airtel customers are set to be able to open Axis Bank savings accounts with their mobile phones and carry out transactions including cash deposits, money transfers and withdrawals.

In recent news, Nigerian financial institution First Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bharti Airtels African division Airtel Nigeria and African telecommunications company Globacom to provide mobile banking services to the unbanked Nigerian population via mobile devices.
