M-banking operations in Colombia have reached 2.53 million in 2008, of which 443,787 were used in transactions worth COP 12 billion (EUR 3,982 million) and 2.08 million to check account balances.

The country’s m-banking platform is being offered by the Colombian banking network Redeban Multicolor in partnership with Gemalto. The platform enables prepaid and postpaid mobile subscribers to perform secure transactions on the move and access banking services, transfer money, check their account balances, recharge pre-paid mobiles and pay their bills. Gemalto was awarded a contract to provide Colombia’s first SIM-based m-banking service in 2007. The service is available for all Colombian GSM operators.
