NFC mobile payments revenues to surpass USD 30 billion by 2012 - report

Wednesday 2 September 2009 10:51 CET | News

The NFC mobile payment transactions will see a significant growth in value globally, from USD 8 billion in 2009 to USD 30 billion in three years time, research indicates.

Such an increase is mainly attributable to revenues generated by the application of NFC as a mobile retail marketing instrument via coupons and smart posters , as the ability to tap smart posters and receive coupons and product information also presents new channels to market for merchants, according to the report. NFC/Felica payments have already gained ground in Japan, but by 2014, the North American and Western European markets will also witness high growth.

The study titled “NFC Mobile Payments & Marketing Opportunities: Forecasts & Analysis 2009 - 2014” was conducted by market research firm Juniper Research.
