NPCIs new mobile payments platform to link banking apps

Monday 8 February 2016 00:04 CET | News

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will launch Unified Payment Interface (UPI) that will enable transactions between mobile apps of different banks by bringing about interoperability.

The paltform is expected to be launched in a couple of months. In the second phase, UPI will plug into UIDAI for biometric identification.

The UPI will enable merchants to send debit requests to account holders, which is the equivalent of swiping a card but without having a physical card or even the customers account details. The customer will have to authenticate the debit using his PIN, which would result in a funds transfer.
