Payment volume from PayPal's merchant services tops volume received from eBay auctions in Q3 2008 Thursday 16 October 2008 | 02:56 PM CET

In Q3 2008, the merchant-services part of PayPal's transaction volume has exceeded the volume generated by eBay auctions for the first time.

Thus, payment volume received from online merchants reached USD 7.55 billion in the aforementioned period, an increase by 49 percent over Q3 2007. Payments received from eBay auctions hit USD 7.27 billion, growing by 12 percent as compared to the same period of the previous year.
For the same period PayPal reports USD 597 million in net revenue, up 27 percent year-over-year, while the net total payment volume reaches USD 14.81 billion, a growth of 28 percent year-over-year.
PayPal's number of global active registered accounts has increased by 19 percent to 65.3 million, generating 214.5 million transactions, up 25 percent as compared with Q3 2007.
