US transaction processing services provider Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) introduces a credit and debit card payment service called Transax Merchant Services.

Via Transax Merchant Services, merchants gain access to services which facilitate the payment process, including creating a trade account as well as accepting a cheque with an instant payment warranty. The payment service also allows for mobile phone top-ups, cash-back, VAT refunds and payment in alternative currencies. As part of a six-week pilot programme, over 100 businesses selected Transax Merchant Services and company representatives forecast that this number is to reach 1,000 by the end of 2008.
