Barclaycard reaches 5 million contactless-enabled cards threshold in UK Friday 11 December 2009 | 10:50 AM CET

UK financial services provider Barclays and its global payments arm Barclaycard have reached the five million units threshold for contactless-enabled cards issued in the UK. Barclaycard first rolled out its Barclaycard One Pulse contactless payment technology in 2007.

Barclaycard continues to expand its contactless payments infrastructure by adding a series of retailers to its list of partners which provide contactless payment facilities for consumers. Thus, UK independent coffee retailer Caffe Nero – which piloted the integrated EPoS contactless system last year - completed the rollout across its entire outlet chain in October 2009.

The number of outlets that accept contactless payments via Barclaycard has reached 20,000 in the UK.
