Almost 9 out of 10 Canadians are taking measures to protect themselves against fraud, a recent survey indicates.
According to the TD Canada Trust Fraud Prevention Month Poll, 73 percent of those involved in the survey mentioned shredding documents as a preventive step against fraud, while 62 percent prefer to shield the Personal Identification Number. Other actions taken by Canadians to prevent fraud include speaking with the bank to reduce their daily bank card withdrawal limit (12 percent) and changing the PIN every couple of months (6 percent).
The same source indicates that the percentage of Canadians who engage themselves in risky behaviour is not high: 21 percent of Canadians have sent their credit card number in emails, 10 percent have told someone their debit card PIN and only 7 percent have carried their PIN in their wallet.
The TD Canada Trust Fraud Prevention Month Poll was conducted by Angus Reid Public Opinion, a subsidiary of Vision Critical. The total sample size included 1,059 Canadians with credit and debit cards.
