Scotland's Dumfries and Galloway council area rolls out smart money card with sQuid Tuesday 2 March 2010 | 11:14 AM CET

Electronic money (eMoney) operator sQuid has made available its electronic purse in the Dumfries and Galloway council area in Scotland. This has been achieved by connecting the electronic purse with the Dumfries and Galloway-branded National Entitlement Card (NEC).

The sQuid payment service permits its users to pay for their purchases electronically at participating outlets from a pre-loaded purse on their card.

Citizens of Dumfries and Galloway that own a NEC can have sQuid eMoney added to their NEC. Thus, they are enabled to pay for small value items as well as access public services such as concessionary travel, library membership and leisure centre membership.

sQuid is planning to make the cards available for further projects, such as travel and loyalty schemes.
