Whataburger accepts MasterCard PayPass contactless payments Wednesday 26 August 2009 | 10:42 AM CET

US quick service restaurant chain Whataburger is set to begin accepting the MasterCard PayPass contactless technology in over 500 locations across southern US.

As a result, Whataburger customers can carry out payments by tapping their MasterCard PayPass cards or devices on a PayPass reader at checkout to complete their purchases. In order to enable PayPass acceptance, Whataburger restaurants are being equipped with Vivotech 4500M and DTc readers, which accept PayPass contactless payments, as well as magnetic stripe payment cards.

According to research carried out by MasterCard, in Q1 2009 over 55 million PayPass-enabled cards or devices had been issued, more than double the number of cards and devices in circulation around the world during the previous year.
