423.5 mln internet users access banking websites

Worldwide, 423.5 million internet users or 28.7 percent of total internet users have accessed online banking websites, a recent study points out.

According to a report on the global reach of online banking websites for April 2012 released by research company comScore, online banking is growing with almost 3 percent y-o-y. The same source unveils that more than 45 percent of North American internet users have accessed online banking, making it the region with the highest number using these services. Results show that Europe has ranked second with 37.8 percent of European internet users going online to check out their finances, while Latin America positioned third with 25.1 percent.

According to findings, other regions outside the top three are still registering a y-o-y growth, with Asia Pacifics figure increasing 5.1 percent to 22 percent. However, some regions are seeing a drop in usage, with the Middle East and Africa showing a 0.4 percent decrease in users accessing online banking.
