Tuesday 17 July 2012 08:52 CET | News

Austria-based financial institution VKB-Bank has selected Dutch digital security company Gemalto for online banking security services.

Under the terms of the deal, VKB-Bank will deploy Gemaltos Ezio Edge Optic authentication service. The optical smart card reader offers VKB’s online customers a series of security features. The Ezio solution leverages the security of smart debit cards to authorize e-banking transactions and is compliant with banking standards in Austria.

The device is placed in front of the screen and the encoded transaction data needed for verification and transaction signature generation that are displayed on the screen are instantly read. Once verified, users can complete online transactions including money transfer and payments. The Gemalto Ezio Edge Optic requires no software installation on the user’s computer or mobile device. The Ezio Edge Optic reader will be made available to all VKB customers at branch offices.

Gemalto delivers electronic passports and identity cards, two-factor authentication devices for online protection, smart credit/debit and contactless payment cards, as well as subscriber identification modules (SIM) and universal integrated circuit cards (UICC) in mobile phones.
