Belgacom, BNP Paribas Fortis to launch mobile wallet in Belgium

Tuesday 19 March 2013 10:46 CET | News

French financial services provider BNP Paribas Fortis and Belgium-based telecom operator Belgacom are set to jointly launch a mobile wallet in Belgium.

The mobile wallet is set to integrate mobile payments, virtual ticketing, e-couponing and loyalty programs. The pilot is planned end 2013 with full rollout as from spring 2014.

Consumers can use the app of their public transport provider to check timetables and buy tickets. Payment and storage of the ticket will be handled in-app. Consumers launch the app of the local movie theatre, select the film they want to see and directly buy the ticket. From the app of their favourite fast food chain, consumers can also make their order while walking over to the restaurant. Consumers accept their special offer that is stored in the app and the coupon is automatically applied when they make the payment. In the process, their membership rewards are also directly credited to their loyalty account. With their order confirmation on screen, they skip the line and pick up their order.

In recent news, French-based provider of payment services Ingenico has entered an agreement with BNP Paribas Fortis to allow retailers to use their smartphones to receive card payments in Belgium.
