Capture Technologies to provide ID card issuing platform to the San Francisco municipality Friday 16 January 2009 | 11:49 AM CET

The City of San Francisco authorities team up with security and telephony integration services provider Capture Technologies to launch an Identification Card (ID card) system for San Francisco residents. The system aims to provide citizens who wish to access local financial and recreation services with a means to make proof of their identities.

The ID cards target residents such as students, elderly citizens, non-drivers and immigrants, who do not have access to traditional forms of identification. Under the terms of the agreement, Capture Technologies is to provide San Francisco authorities with its Datacard MX600 Card Issuance System, a platform which produces personalised cards protected from forgery, fraud, tampering or alteration. The cards allow residents to open checking accounts at certain financial services providers such as Wells Fargo and Bank of America, as well as access the library and city parks.

Around 15.000 ID cards are expected to be issued over the coming months, with Capture Technologies also taking charge of providing San Francisco authorities with equipment maintenance, user training and software support.
