A recent study conducted in the US indicates that over two thirds of consumers who use online banking and bill payment services pay at least one monthly bill via their credit or debit cards.

In terms of most popular bills paid online by consumers, the survey shows that credit card bills rank first with regard to the number of such bills paid per month. Other categories of bills frequently paid online are utility bills, telephone, cable/satellite, television and insurance.

In what concerns the average amounts of online bill payment transactions, the survey indicates that credit card bills represent the categories for which online consumers pay the highest sums – approximately USD 600 per bill on a monthly basis. Insurance bills are the second most expensive bills paid online (with an average USD 319 per bill), followed by utilities (USD 217 per month), cable/satellite television (USD 162) and telephone bills (USD 143).
