Danish mobile operators to launch contactless m-wallet service

Friday 24 June 2011 13:18 CET | News

Danish mobile telephone operators TDC, Telenor, TeliaSonera and Three have entered an agreement to cooperate on the development of an NFC-based digital wallet service in Denmark, media outlet pcworld.com reports quoting sources familiar with the deal.

According to the source, the operators are set to launch the new m-wallet offering in the fall of 2011; however, widespread take-up of the new service is expected to develop over the course of several years after the initial project launch. This is due to the fact that m-wallet adoption is likely to be impacted by a number of factors, NFC handset adoption and contactless terminals deployments among merchants prominent among them.

The m-wallet offering is set to provide consumers with the ability to pay for goods and services via their contactless-enabled phones. A number of additional services, such as access control and book lending, are also set to be accessible via the m-wallet, operators have indicated.
