eBay is set to buy a majority stake in the Turkish auction website GittiGidiyor in a bid to expand its presence on the market.

The majority stake in GittiGidiyor will raise eBay’s ownership to 93 percent. In 2007, eBay acquired a minority share in the auction website. GittiGidiyor has 6.4 million registered users in Turkey while eBay has 94.5 million registered users.

At the end of March 2011, eBay has agreed to acquire the US e-commerce and multichannel services provider GSI Commerce for USD 2.4 billion. Following the acquisition, GSI is expected to benefit from eBay’s global platform and technology capabilities and its clients will be able to manage eBay marketplaces and PayPal services.
