Half of US web users to redeem digital coupons by end 2011 - study

By the end of 2011, almost half of US adult internet users, accounting for 88.2 million people, will redeem an online coupon or code for use online or offline, according to data released by market research firm eMarketer.

The figure is set to jump to 92.5 million by 2012 and 96.8 million by 2013, while online coupon usage among US households will witness almost a two-fold increase from 12 percent in 2005 to 22 percent in 2011, the same source indicates.

According to the eMarketer analysts, the characteristics of the typical online coupon user profile are “affluent, highly educated and over the age of 55”.
