NatWest launches TouchPay NFC contactless payment trial

Thursday 5 July 2012 14:47 CET | News

National Westminster Bank (NatWest), a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), has launched an NFC mobile payments trial of its contactless payment service dubbed TouchPay which allows customers to make NFC payments using their mobile devices, online media outlet techweekeurope.co.uk reports.

According to the source, trial participants will be sent an iCarte cover to attach to their iPhone devices which will turn them into virtual wallets. The iCarte will prompt users to download the TouchPay app. They will then be able to pay for purchases from their accounts at participating retailers.

Users can choose from two payments settings. The automatic setting allows payments simply touching the phone against the reader, while users will occasionally be asked to enter the passcode to ensure that they’re still in possession of the device. The manual setting requires the passcode to be entered for every transaction.
