In October 2012, Dutch online transaction system iDEAL has exceeded its milestone of 10 million monthly payments. During the same year, more than 117.2 million iDEAL payments have been made.

According to the company’s result, with more than 11.7 million transactions, December 2012 was the peak month of the year. Compared to 2011, the number of iDEAL payments in 2012 has increased by 24.9 percent. Total sales made with iDEAL have amounted to more than EUR 8.8 billion. The average value of an iDEAL payment has marginally increased in comparison with 2011 to almost EUR 74.20.

For 2013, the Currence Organization expects iDEAL to continue to grow, partly due to the expected increase in online shopping. A major boost for this is the increasing use of smartphones and tablets. As a result, consumers are no longer tied by their own location for their online purchases and are able to purchase online anywhere and anytime. The M-Commerce Monitor by Blauw shows that during H1 2012 the number of mobile shoppers has doubled in comparison with a year ago (+103 percent). Apart from applications and mobile software, in 2012 clothing was purchased regularly via mobile appliances for the first time.
