Dutch mobile payments service Payter has reached an agreement with cinema chain Pathe to enable Payter trial participants to use their mobile to buy tickets at Pathe cinemas in The Netherlands.

The first cinema to adopt Payter system will be Pathe Schouwburgplein. Consumers can obtain information about where the film is showing, whether seats are available and also download and pay tickets by tapping their phone against smart posters showing a special Payter logo. Payment is deducted from consumers’ account or debited from their credit card. Payter and Pathe are now developing an online payments service to allow consumers to buy mobile tickets through the Pathe website.

Payter is an NFC payments trial launched in 2006 and is currently available in the centre Rotterdam’s city centre. 1000 consumers taking part in the trial can use NFC-enabled multifunctional phones in shops, parking garages, bars and restaurants.

The pilot project in Rotterdam’s city centre is a test before a nationwide rollout. Around 40 shopkeepers, retail chains and leisure facilities in the centre of Rotterdam have now signed up to use Payter. Payter can be used with all bank cards, credit cards and other payment systems.

In related news, Payter has also started a trial of NFC payments in taxis. The service has been available to Payter mobile phone users for a month in two tuk-tuks in Rotterdam.
