Qiwi, Skype to roll out new payment method

As a result, Russian Skype users will be able to top up Skype credit using Qiwi cash-in kiosks across the country. The new method introduced by Qiwi is a one-step procedure, which does not require an account with any online payment system, a credit card or any other long-term commitment to any other third-party service by the consumer. The service will also be available to Qiwi Wallet users, who would be able to top-up their Skype Credit wherever they are using a mobile application or web version of Qiwi Wallet.

To use the newly introduced service a person should find Skype under category «Telephony, IP Telephony» in the Qiwi terminal or Qiwi Wallet application menu, enter their Skype name and insert the bills into the terminal or input the top-up amount into the application. Once added to the user’s Skype Credit account, the money can be then used to cover any Skype paid feature, both on pay-as-you-go basis and through one or several subscriptions.

Qiwi terminals are used to pay for internet access, cable TV, home utility bills, software, online games, bank loans and more by over 80 millions of Russians. Over 120,000 terminals across the country enable people to gain access to Skype paid features, such as calling to landlines and mobiles, sending SMS messages, connecting to public WiFi hotspots or group video calling.

Qiwi works with more than 3500 merchants which include mobile operators, internet and TV providers, housing and utilities, public institutions, I-shops, e-wallets, online games, airlines and railway companies, insurance, MLM and banks. Qiwi also provides money transfers, virtual Visa cards and gift cards, press subscription, lotteries, transport tickets, microfinance.
