Serbia: 16% of internet users make online purchases

In 2012, almost 600, 000 of internet users from Serbia have bought products online, including travel tickets, tickets for sports and cultural events, insurance policies, beauty products, computers and other technical equipment, recent statistics indicate.

According to Stefan Lazarevic, the State Secretary for Electronic Communications and the Information Society, cited by online media outlet Telecompaper, in 2012, 16 percent of Serbian internet users have made online purchases.

Estimates released by the Statistics Bureau indicate that the share of online purchases compared to overall purchases amounts to less than 10 percent. The survey Serbia 2.0 - Internet Revolution 2011/2012 points out that almost half respondents have used the internet over 5 hours per day, while 64 percent of citizens have used the internet for some type of financial transaction.
