Shell Oil Products to make e-check payment method available on the US market Thursday 13 November 2008 | 11:15 AM CET

Shell Oil Products is to introduce an electronic check payment option in the US at the beginning of January 2009, at the same time when the Shell $aver Card is to be made available to consumers.

The initiative is aimed at consumers who want to pay for gasoline or diesel purchases from their checking accounts. The company has made an agreement with US payment processing company First Data, under the terms of which the latter will manage the $aver Card transactions which are to be processed via First Data’s TeleCheck check verification services. Apart from check verification services, TeleCheck also provides electronic check conversion, check guarantee and collection services to financial institutions.
Clients can pick up an inactive Shell $aver Card at participating Shell-branded stations, which can be used for any purchase except for lottery tickets. Besides the Shell $aver Card, the company's customers can also pay via the Shell Platinum MasterCard, Shell Gasoline Card, Shell Gift Card, Shell Refillable Card and the Shell Fleet Card. Shell Oil Products' network across US includes nearly 6,100 gasoline stations.
