UK-based global digital wallet provider Skrill has agreed to acquire paysafecard group, a European provider of payment processing services. The total consideration for the acquisition is up to EUR 140 million.

Following the strategic acquisition Skrill will be able to offer merchants and end-users its digital wallet service combined with prepaid services in 31 countries.

paysafecard is a prepaid electronic payment method which enables customers without access to a credit card or bank account (or those who do not wish to provide card details on the internet for security reasons) to make purchases online. paysafecard operates in 33 countries worldwide with offices in Vienna, London, Bern, New York and Buenos Aires. More than 3,500 online shops accept paysafecard worldwide. Skrill has more than 25 million account holders globally and gives access to over 100 payment options in over 200 countries and territories, processing in over 41 different currencies.

The acquisition of paysafecard is subject to clearance by the Austrian Finanzmarktaufsichtsbehörde (FMA) and the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) as well as the relevant merger control authorities.
