Tencent enables online transactions via WeChat application

Tuesday 18 June 2013 07:18 CET | News

Chinese internet company Tencent has enabled online transactions for selected merchants by linking a payment service to its WeChat smartphone application.

The application allows users to send voice messages, photos and other media the way they might send text messages. WeChat does all back-end technical integration and support for the vendors, including page design and payment linkups. Online transactions are made available via credit cards, online banking or TenPay, the companys third-party payment platform. TenPay allows merchants to process payments from customers personal accounts.

In recent news, Tencent has joined forces with Taiwan-based E.SUN Bank to provide the Tenpay online payment service which enables mainland internet users to buy products such as food and cosmetics from Taiwans small and medium-sized enterprises.
