According to a survey by the government agency Census Bureau, in Q4 2012, US adjusted online sales have jumped 15.6 percent year-over-year, while on an unadjusted basis, sales have increased 15.8 percent.
The same source shows that during the same quarter, adjusted e-commerce retail sales of USD 59.5 billion have accounted for 5.4 percent of total retail sales of USD 1.1 trillion.
Research also points out that the growth in online retail sales is three times faster than overall retail sales growth and while online sales are not likely to catch up anytime soon, retailers that do not have significant online sales are missing a major opportunity for growth.
