US-based electronic payment services provider VeriFone Systems is reportedly planning to introduce a tablet credit card reader by the end of 2011, in a bid to enable retailers to accept credit/debit cards, media outlet Bloomberg.com reports.

According to the source, the upcoming product is set to encase tablets including Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. Several retailers are currently testing the device, which is expected to be released at the end of August 2011. No price has been set yet.

In addition, VeriFone has recently completed the acquisition of Destiny Electronic Commerce (trading as CSC), a South Africa-based electronic payments services provider. The new VeriFone unit is headquartered in Johannesburg with offices in Cape Town and Durban.

CSC is a provider of payment technologies and services at the PoS for Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. The company supplies and supports payment systems for banking, retail and petroleum, providing estate management services and tools.

In recent news, VeriFone Systems has entered a contract to supply 15,600 contactless payment solutions to ComfortDelGro Corporation for its Singapore taxi fleet.
