Western Union, Roshan launch international mobile money transfer service in Afghanistan

Western Union and Afghanistan-based telecommunications provider Roshan have launched the Western Union Mobile Money Transfer service in Afghanistan.

The agreement adds international remittances to the M-Paisa service introduced by Roshan in November 2008.

Through M-Paisa, registered customers can receive their salaries, pay bills, receive and repay microfinance loans, send and receive money and purchase airtime directly from their mobile phones. With the new service, Roshans M-Paisa customers can receive Western Union Money Transfer transactions from abroad in their mobile wallet accounts.

Western Unions Mobile Money Transfer service is currently available in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Canada, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Paraguay, the Philippines, Tanzania, Uganda and the US.

In recent news, Western Union has completed the acquisition of the French part of Travelex Global Business Payments, a global payment services provider.
