eBay is set to expand its activity by the end of March 2010 with the launch of an online retail platform in five European countries and Russia.
The online retailer’s aim is to boost international transactions by enabling buyers to navigate and purchase in their native languages. Thus, online shoppers in Russia, Greece, the Czech Republic, Norway, Denmark and Sweden will now be able to make purchases in their native tongues.
The company will also offer PayPal, its online payments system, to the newly-targeted customers to facilitate transactions across borders. Clients will only be allowed to purchase items whose price has already been fixed, as opposed to those sold in an auctions format.
In addition to its original U.S. website, eBay has established localised websites in thirty other countries.
