Google opens social- networking site to teenagers Friday 27 January 2012 | 02:35 PM CET

Google has revealed plans to open up its Google+ social network to teenagers aged 13 and older. In addition, Google will also launch new protection features for teenagers who are at least13 years old in the US and join the social network.

The company has also unveiled its intentions to build a new safety center for Google+, with a special focus on teenagers.

Google+ new capabilities for teenagers include a warning, which will prevent teenagers from sharing too much information publicly. The new protections also prohibit strangers, who are not part of a teenager's circle, from contacting them online. In case they attempt to contact them via the internet, teenagers’ camera and microphone will be muted until they re-enable them.

Google will also add several teen-friendly groups and brands to Google+ such as Cody Simpson, the TV show Glee, The Hunger Games, Nickelodeon, Selena Gomez, and Teen Vogue. Justin Bieber is also expected to join Google+.
