Tuesday 17 April 2012 | 10:42 AM CET

Only 2 percent of French consumers who use Facebook have declared they would buy via the social network,  recent research has unveiled.

According to the French association of e-commerce and mail order retail Fevad, even though 93 percent of French e-retailers have a Facebook page in 2012, up from 86 percent in 2011, French merchants are not keen on selling via Facebook nor are consumers on buying via Facebook. The same source has revealed that, although most online retailers have mentioned that social networks such as Facebook are important marketing channels, they do not plan to sell items directly through such websites yet.

According to Marc Lolivier, general director of Fevad, cited by media outlet internetretailer.com, French retailers should leverage the network to tap into the some 25 million active Facebook users in the country.
