Volusion, a provider of e-commerce services for online businesses, has announced the beta release of its mobile commerce feature.
Dubbed the Volusion mCommerce, the solution allows shoppers to browse and research products through a mobile-optimized version of a retailer’s online store. The Volusion mCommerce tool is optimized only for the iPhone, but it will also be available for additional internet-enabled smartphones soon.
Volusion customers can enable a setting in their store’s admin for the optimized version to work with mobile browsers. Shoppers who navigate to any of Volusion’s customer sites using an iPhone will automatically have access to the mobile-optimized version of the retailer’s site.
Data released by market research firm ABI Research indicate that sales from physical goods ordered via mobile phones reached USD 800 million in 2009 and this number is expected to double in 2010.
