PhoneFactor releases out-of-band SMS authentication platform Tuesday 2 March 2010 | 11:21 AM CET

Security services provider PhoneFactor has enhanced its two-factor authentication platform through the release of an extension that includes support for out-of-band authentication via SMS text messaging.

The addition enables PhoneFactor to verify users by sending a one-time Passcode via an SMS text message. Further on, users are given the option to check their identity through a phone call or text message.

With the new SMS-based platform, PhoneFactor is set to send the user a text message containing a one-time Passcode. The user replies to the message by texting back the one-time Passcode to complete the authentication.

By adding the SMS Authentication functionality to the PhoneFactor platform, users are enabled to choose how they want to perform the added validation – via a phone call or text message.
