Billeo launches Active eWallet API to provide card issuers with direct connection to consumer's e-wallets Friday 13 January 2012 | 12:15 PM CET

US online shopping and bill payment services provider Billeo has launched its Active eWallet API to allow card issuers to add their cards as a payment option in Billeo's Active Context platform and shop or pay bills online.

Once a credit, debit, prepaid or gift card issuer uses the API, the issuer's card appears as an option in Billeo's iPad and browser apps allowing cardholders using any of Billeo's apps to add the card into their e-wallet and use it while shopping or paying bills online. The API establishes a direct connection between the card issuer and Billeo's Active Context platform allowing customers to check their balance before making a purchase and reload prepaid cards directly from one of Billeo's apps.

In December 2011, Billeo entered a strategic alliance with Cartera Commerce, a US-based provider of multi-channel shopping services. In addition, the two companies developed and introduced a service which will help consumers find and redeem multi-channel card-linked offers from both online and in-store retailers.
